Moon Import, founded by Pepi Mongiardino in 1980, holds a significant place in the world of whisky bottling. Pepi, known for his artistic flair, began bottling whisky under the Moon Import label in 1982. His hands-on approach extended to designing the packaging for Moon Import bottles, a task he undertook with great care and creativity. Pepi's choice of using images from old books for labels contributed to the iconic and visually appealing nature of Moon Import bottles. The combination of exquisite design and high-quality liquid ensured Moon Import's steady rise in popularity.
Moon Import continues to thrive, and its early releases are esteemed treasures in whisky collections worldwide. Among these releases, the Longmorn distilled in 1966 and matured in sherry wood stands out as part of the 2nd collection, bottled in 1985. Pepi Mongiardino affectionately referred to this series as the "Alembics," adding a personal touch to the presentation of these exceptional whiskies. The Longmorn 1966 from Moon Import's Alembics collection represents not only the craftsmanship of the distillery but also Pepi's artistic vision, making it a sought-after gem for whisky enthusiasts and collectors alike.
