A Centuries-Old Masterpiece from Castarède’s Historical Collection

The Castarède 1900 Bas-Armagnac is a breathtaking vintage from the turn of the century, embodying over 100 years of meticulous aging and preservation. Bottled in April 2017, this Armagnac offers a sensory journey back in time, delivering the profound complexity and elegance that only a century of aging can produce. This bottle is not just a spirit; it’s a preserved piece of French history, exquisitely presented in its original carton box, making it a perfect addition to any prestigious collection.

Tasting Notes

The 1900 Castarède Bas-Armagnac presents a stunning profile shaped by its century-long maturation:

  • Nose: Deeply layered with aromas of aged leather, dried apricots, and toasted almonds, accented by delicate wafts of polished mahogany and subtle floral undertones.
  • Palate: Rich and velvety, with flavors of dried figs, honeyed walnuts, and dark chocolate interwoven with warm spices like cinnamon and clove. The long aging has lent a remarkable depth, and there’s a delightful touch of rancio—a unique, earthy note often found in very old spirits.
  • Finish: Profoundly long and luxurious, with lingering notes of tobacco, candied orange peel, and a whisper of vintage oak, showcasing the exceptional balance that only a Bas-Armagnac of this caliber can achieve.

Provenance and History

Originating from the prestigious Bas-Armagnac region, known for producing Armagnacs with unparalleled finesse and longevity, the 1900 Castarède reflects the best of its terroir. Bottled after an incredible 117 years in April 2017, this specific bottle (No. 1990030417) is a testament to the dedication and artistry of the Castarède family, the oldest Armagnac house, established in 1832. Every aspect of its production—from careful distillation to patient aging—has contributed to the nuanced complexity in each sip.

Collector’s Highlights

Housed in its original carton box, this bottle offers an exceptional presentation, preserving its legacy for the serious collector. With over a century of aging, the 1900 Castarède Bas-Armagnac is a rare opportunity for connoisseurs to add an invaluable piece of history to their collection. The unique Bottle No. 1990030417 further enhances its exclusivity, marking it as a distinctive find in the world of collectible Armagnac.
